Hauola Awards

Lele Aloha was created as a response to the 2023 Maui fire tragedy. Our work at Lele Aloha supports the rebuilding, re-establishing and reinvigorating of the areas and communities affected by 2023 fires. The course to recovery and into rejuvenated communities is a long one, but the need for relief and aid is immediate, its short sighted, its today.

“Ka laʻi o Hauola” The Calm of Hauola ʻŌlelo Noʻeau #

In the midst of the chaotic activity that rebirth brings, our community needs spaces of calm, of healing, or rebirth within a supported environment. In Lahaina along the shoreline, near the ferry pier, the Hauola stone served the community as a place for rebirth, for healing, for calm while on the shore of change. Our Hauola awards honor this important pohaku (stone) and the foundational knowledge it provides. These awards will extend the life, health, and wellbeing of our communities until we once again thrive.

The funds for the awards are to be used to rebuild areas and communities that were affected by the 2024 Maui Fires. These funds should be used in a way that supports the rebuilding of Lahaina community through

  • capital improvements

  • planning and permitting

  • support for community programs
